Somewhere over the rainbow

A chat with a friend of mine last week made me think about my long-term plans. I love the Philippines, I really do. But the economy is getting weaker, no matter what the government say in their press releases, that I don’t see a future for my little girl anymore. I’ve been seeing a lot of job openings for my field in other countries and some of them I heard from friends who work there. I just ignore them. I don’t really see MYSELF living anywhere else. I love my work from home job, my pay, the freedom to do what I want, the luxury of having helpers 24/7, and the comfort of being close to your parents/relatives. That’s for me and knowing The Husband, I’m sure he prefers to stay here until we die. But now, we have Sandy’s future to think about. So as much as I want to stay, I need to make plans as early as now.

The friend that I chatted with was sponsored by a US company and was given a whopping salary of $$$$ (____).  In one year, she can even purchase an affordable house in the suburbs. A quick check on Denver real estate showed that you could get a house for as low as $180,000. If that will not interest me, she said I can bring my immediate family too even if The Husband doesn’t have work there (yet). And she’s not even that good with web design (she said so herself). Of course, the standard of living there is high but what I’m saying is, there’s always a chance even if not in the US. We have an option. We just need to make that choice.

A very hard one, indeed.
