Kingdom of Heaven
Posted on May 6th, 2008 | by dzoi |This is my latest favorite movie.

If you haven’t seen it, I highly recommend that you rent or buy a DVD. Orlando Bloom was so good here that I almost said, “Legolas who?”. This epic film, which is set during the Crusades of the 12th century is directed and produced by Ridley Scott. Bloom played Balian of Ibelin, who was supposed to be a village blacksmith but ended up or tried at least to save Jerusalem.
“Be without fear in the face of your enemies. Speak the truth, always, even if it leads to your death. Safeguard the helpless and do no wrong. That is your oath…”
I love these lines. Especially coming from Orlando Bloom’s mouth. I can really imagine him as a honorable and courageous knight. But that’s the smitten side of me talking. When I first saw the movie, I found it hard to believe that a mere blacksmith could do amazing things in war. After reading a couple of articles online, I learned that he was actually a French military engineer who was just serving as a blacksmith.

There are plenty of bad reviews for this movie but I am thankful that I didn’t see them. I always watch movies based on good reviews only, which is stupid, because if I did, then I’d probably never have a chance to see Kingdom of Heaven. So if you’re reading this, find a copy and allot three hours of total peace and quiet to fully appreciate this movie.
