Data Protection
Posted on June 18th, 2008 | by dzoi |An online friend recently lost her five years worth of photos and videos when her EHD crashed. She had no idea what happened, except that the EHD can’t be detected anymore. This scared me because I just finished backing up all my projects and photos to my new portable hardisk. So now I’m going to make a safety plan to protect my data. Aside from burning several copies in DVDs, I’m thinking of signing up for IDrive Pro. IDrive is a company that offers online backup service. You can save up to 2GB for free and up to 150GB at $4.95 a month. What I like about this service is that your back up files is stored exactly the way they are stored on your computer. It maintains the same path that you’re using on your local system.
Other backup features:
Idle time backup - backup process will start or continue when the computer is in idle state
Scheduled backups
Storage computation
Genuine file versioning
Mapped drive - backups will continue even if you’re logged off from the system
Enhanced security with 128-bit SSL encryption on transfers
I’ve signed up for the free service to see how easy I can backup/restore files. Everything’s great so far that I might consider getting a Pro package. You just can never be sure when it comes to computers. Plus, just in case there’s a power interruption, I can easily work anywhere by accessing my files through IDrive.

What a great idea! I’m definitely gonna check it out. I am currently backing up my data too - on various DVDs AND to a portable HD. Because my computer got full and almost crashed; that’s how all this started. Thanks for the tip - and for visiting my blog. Cheers!
