Pain Killers
Posted on August 8th, 2008 | by dzoi |As year passes by and as we get older, it’s not rare to hear bad news about old classmates and colleagues who had bad luck. Just recently, I heard from an old friend that one of our classmates from high school is undergoing opiate rehab. His painkiller addiction started when he had to take opiate analgesics for his constant severe migraines. He felt better after taking it that he decided to make it a habit to take some whenever he feels the beginnings of a major migraine. I don’t really know the specifics but I believe he went to rehab when he realized that his marriage was on the rocks.
I feel bad for him because he really was a great guy back in school. He’s one of those kids that you know will get to the top as soon as they graduate from College. He’s popular not just because he’s smart (and a little cute) but also because he makes a lot of friends even from lower sections. At the time, befriending someone from the lower sections is like hanging out with trouble. That can’t be true of course, but we were too young to know any better.
I do hope that he and his family can get through all this. There are plenty of counseling services where they are based so it’s easy to get help when you feel like you can’t do it anymore.
