Self Projects

Posted on June 15th, 2009 | by admin |

Lately, I feel like that I’m doing nothing for myself. Creative-wise that is. Oh yes I’m spending a lot of time watching my shows, reading books and surfing to my heart’s content. But if I think about all the hours that I’m spending doing these things, it felt like I’m wasting so much of my time. To be fair, when I say surf, it means I’m busy checking out graphics design inspirations (from magazine layouts to restaurant menus to Halloween invitations), new technologies for graphics and other tools that can help me improve my skills as a designer.

Anyway, here’s a list of projects that I’m going to work on starting next week:

  • Create “THE WEBSITE”. This is the 5th re-design of my portfolio website. I have so many ideas in my head but I’m having trouble translating it into paper. I’ve done several sketches but they all ended up in the trash. I need to find that one layout that will not only keep me satisfied for a year, but will also impress co-designers.
  • Get into scrapbooking again. Recently, Aggie showed me a simplified version of scrapbooking using minimal kits. It’s also an “all about me” type of storytelling so I’m so excited to make my own version. I love talking about myself so why not put it into writing? The catch is it has to be a whole book, at least 20 pages about me. It shouldn’t be hard, I am vain after all.
  • I’ve been seeing several staged but beautiful shots at deviantart.com lately. I would like to do something similar but I need to learn about lighting and find the right equipment. We do have white sheets though so that will be crossed off my list.

The list is short but they are all hard to execute. What with projects left and right, which I’m really thankful for, a little girl to entertain and distractions everywhere. Wish me luck. I’ve been meaning to do this for so long.
