A number of the patients were upstanding citizens, management-level employees, and even civic leaders and I thought really hard about what drove these people to substance abuse. Most of them did meth, which according to the US Drug Enforcement Administration is, in some states, second only to alcohol in terms of usage. Think about that, in the hierarchy of things you learn outside your home, doing meth comes drinking beer. I can only wonder what the numbers are like over here. I think family plays the most important role in the prevention of substance abuse. Tell your kids drugs kill (I mean scare the daylights out of them), make sure you know the people your kids hang out with, and teach them to make the right choices as early as possible.
