Sharing some of the photos from our previous party. The Husband dressed as Elwood from Blues Brothers, myself as Holly from Breakfast at Tiffany’s, Sandy as Cher from Clueless and Meg as Danny Zuko from Grease. We were supposed to get her a leather jacket but couldn’t find one so we just rolled up her sleeves. It was fun even if we lost the best in Costume award plus we were able to test our mobile studio, which was as expected, a huge hit.

Outdoor Wear

I’m shopping for fleece jackets for the husband’s 5-day trip after Christmas. We have no idea how cold it can get in the mountains but just to be safe, he’s bringing one and a few scarf and gloves. Anyway, I’m surprised at how expensive some of these jackets can be. Which is probably why the reason it took so long for the husband to buy one. Since we live in a tropical country, we just have no use for it. But now he does. Similar to when we had to go to Hongkong on their coldest month, we had to purchase tons of warm clothes, amounting to more than $200. What’s sad about it is that we will rarely use those clothes unless we go back to somewhere cold again. Anyway – I know this one will be a good investment and I’m sure he’ll find a way to use it not just this one time.

The husband can be weird sometimes. I caught him checking out ps3 controllers deals online when he doesn’t even own a PS3. He’s probably buying it as a gift for someone. I didn’t ask because it might lead to a discussion why I need to buy him a PS3 or Wii for Christmas. The scene reminded me of a friend wanting to hoard iPhone4 cases when she only has a 3Gs unit. She said you should never say no to a good deal and that it will somehow increase the odds of her having a new phone by the end of the year. Having explained like that, it actually makes sense. In a weird way.

11-Course Degustation by Chef Hylton Le Roux

Finally, we were able to use the vouchers for the 11-Course Modern European Degustation at The Establishment. I bought it for P995 (valued at P1,998) via Deal Grocer just in time for my birthday two months ago. But sickness and other important matters happened which is why it took us this long to use it.

I was very excited and had my hopes up (mainly because we were starving) so I was a little disappointed that the dishes were too small (I know it’s just a sampler but I was hungry!), some are cold while the others can be skipped altogether. Still, for the price we paid, I could say it’s still very good. I grabbed some photos from this blog post (please visit his blog for detailed info) since my iPhone didn’t stand a chance on the too dark Crystal room. We loved the goat cheese and truffle mousse so much we ordered a regular size because the sampler barely reached my throat.

Degustation is a culinary term meaning a careful, appreciative tasting of various foods and focusing on the gustatory system, the senses, high culinary art and good company.

Dinner at La Cocina de Tita Moning

We bought a voucher at Deal Grocer last month for the 4-course dining experience for 2 at Cocina de Tita Moning. I’ve wanted to try that place for so long but I find it too expensive. Thanks to the voucher, we only paid half, which is an amazing deal considering how great the food was!

I really enjoyed the experience – house tour, service, the short history, amazing food and the trip down memory lane (the houses in that area are very old yet still beautiful)

Built in 1937 by Dona Filomena Roces vda Legarda, the Legarda house was one of the first Art Deco Houses built in Metro Manila. It is located on San Rafael St, San Miguel, Manila. Only a few paces from the Presidential Palace of Malacanang, this neighborhood was once Manila’s most elegant district.

In this house, Alejandro Legarda lived with his wife Ramona Hernandez ( Tita Moning) and raised four children .
Dona Ramona (Tita Moning ) was fond of throwing grandiose and lavish parties in this house where her culinary skills and perfection as a hostess became known all over Metro Manila.
The Legarda house still stands today and houses “La Cocina de Tita Moning” where we recreate the wonderful parties of Manila’s most elegant era.

Before dining in, you will be asked to have a “pica-pica” in the garden area. I’d be happy to eat there actually, with the lights and the fresh air.

They served pandan iced tea and toasted bread with quezo de bola. Very good start as you can see from the photo above There were only two left in a span of 5 minutes, thanks to the Husband.

Trivia: Servants were not allowed to touch/clean the meissen plates. Instead, the kids were asked to stay up to wash and dry them.

We were asked to choose between menu2, 4 and 8 and we chose below:

They have more than 10 set menus which I would like to try every other month if I get new vouchers.

These are really good and soooo worth the travel and price.

The New Him

Speaking of diet pills, my husband will need one if he’s serious in re-inventing his look. He’s already back to running, playing basketball and dieting but it’s still a long way to go before he can meet his weight goal. The diet pills are a last resort if he still wouldn’t lose that much after signing up for boxing classes. I really hope he’ll start losing some pounds. Nothing inspires a person to work out more than seeing results via weighing scale.

If the Husband will get his way, we probably have this by now.

This lg lcd is being sold from $199 to $999 depending on the size. He really wants a 32″ and when I saw the price at thesource.ca, I admit it can’t get any cheaper than $399! It says from the web site that the price will be reverted to $549.99 by January 12, 2011.

Time to Quit

I saw an original electronic cigarette being sold at the mall and I suddenly remembered those times when The Husband used to smoke. It was a very trying phase for us but I glad he was able to quit. I’d like to think that it was my threat that I will not marry him if he didn’t quit that made him do it. But actually, we know it was time when we had to spend three hours at the Medical City’s emergency room as he had another asthma attack. I don’t really care which reason it was. I’m just so happy that he’s smoke-free for the last 7 years.

If you’re husband wants to quit smoking but having trouble getting started, try the electronic cigarette. It’s a battery-powered device that provides non-nicotine vaporized solution. It gives the smoker a physical sensation that is the same as inhaling tobacco smoke. It’s a great start if you’re really serious in quitting.
